An EcoVadis score is valid for 12 months from the date the score is issued.

After this period, the assessment expires and the company must submit a new questionnaire with updated documentation in order to keep its medal and maintain a valid CSR profile.

Annual validity to ensure reliable data

EcoVadis evaluates companies across four main sustainability themes:

  • Environment
  • Labor & Human Rights
  • Ethics
  • Sustainable Procurement

Because policies, indicators and supporting documents can evolve quickly, the platform requires an annual assessment.

This frequency ensures up-to-date information and allows for fair comparison between companies operating in the same sector.

Good to know: Documents submitted with the questionnaire (CSR reports, carbon footprints, certifications, etc.) must be recent. EcoVadis considers reporting documents valid if they are less than two years old, and policies valid for up to eight years. Even when documents remain formally valid for several years, companies are strongly encouraged to review and update them regularly to reflect evolving practices and maintain the credibility of their CSR management system.

What happens when an EcoVadis score expires

Once the validity period ends, the EcoVadis medal is no longer considered active.

The company can no longer display the EcoVadis logo or medal level in its official communications unless it renews the assessment.

In practice

  • The scorecard remains accessible on the platform but is marked as “expired”.
  • Business partners (customers, buyers, suppliers) see the score as out of date.
  • To preserve CSR credibility, companies are advised to anticipate the reassessment before the expiration date.

Renewing an EcoVadis assessment

Renewal requires submitting a new, updated questionnaire, supported by recent documentation.

Companies may:

  • Update policies and action plans,
  • Refresh performance indicators (KPIs),
  • Add new certifications or impact evidence,
  • Improve the structure of their CSR practices.

This process not only maintains score validity, but also helps measure progress since the previous assessment.

Good to know: Companies engaged in continuous improvement often see a year-on-year increase in their EcoVadis score, particularly when policies are formalized and indicators are updated regularly.
