- Choosing a carbon footprint provider comes down to one question: who owns the method, you, a consultancy or an expert backed by a platform?
- Five criteria structure the comparison: method and documented emission factors, delivery model, human support, target company size, data reuse and pricing transparency.
- Ditto (coach and sustainability management system), Greenly (SaaS automation), Sami (consulting and verification through SGS), Carbo (public pricing, in-house data collection) and Sweep (platform for large groups) meet five distinct needs.
- According to the 2026 Carbo barometer, 52% of new companies measuring their carbon footprint in 2026 do so to answer a tender.
Choosing a carbon footprint provider starts with choosing who owns the method: a consultancy, a platform you run on your own, or a platform backed by an expert. The market offers all three, with very different levels of support and budgets. The orders of magnitude are detailed in our analysis of the cost of a carbon footprint.
Demand increasingly comes from outside the company. According to the 2026 Carbo barometer (data as of October 20, 2026), 52% of new companies measuring their carbon footprint this year do so to answer a tender. For an SME, the question becomes: how do you get a reliable carbon footprint without a dedicated carbon team? This article compares five providers, Ditto included, using the same criteria for everyone. The figures quoted for competitors come from their own websites and publications, and are labeled as such.
Selection criteria
Five criteria structure this comparison:
- Method: the framework used (GHG Protocol, ISO 14064-1 or Bilan Carbone®) and documented emission factors.
- Delivery model: self-service platform, consulting only, or platform with an expert.
- Human support: a named coach or expert who follows the work over time, or limited support.
- Target company size and handling of scope 3.
- Data reuse from one year to the next and pricing transparency.

The 5 best carbon footprint providers in 2026
1. Ditto
Ditto combines a sustainability compliance platform with a coach who supports the company. On the carbon footprint, the coach leads the scoping, trains the project team, answers contributors, then calculates the footprint using the GHG Protocol, with documented emission factors. The specialist stays responsible for the method (factors, scope 3 exclusions, boundary), which produces a figure you can defend line by line.
The platform provides collection templates (general ledger, purchases, fixed assets, one form per site), an employee survey, a supplier campaign with no account creation (each supplier's overall footprint and revenue, extended as an option with actual data) and multi-entity consolidation. AI pre-categorization sorts the accounting lines, then the specialist validates the inventory. An auditable version, as an option, documents the method and traces every data point for a verifier or a regulatory report. A first footprint takes about three months. The deliverable goes beyond the number: an emissions map, priority categories and a quantified reduction roadmap feed the company's sustainability action plan. The following year, the footprint is recalculated on the same boundary to measure progress, and the data also serves CDP, EcoVadis, CSRD and VS (formerly VSME). Ditto is a CDP Accredited Solutions Provider for CDP climate.
At Connectt (about 120 employees, staffing), a Ditto expert scoped the first carbon footprint and data collection was centralized on the platform, as part of an effort that also moved the group from 57 to 78/100 on EcoVadis. The organization manager sums it up: "Ditto helped us demystify the carbon footprint." Connectt is the first carbon customer story published by Ditto, which has supported companies on EcoVadis since 2022 (+14 points on average between two assessments) and on CDP since 2025 (70 companies, 90% scoring A or B in the 2025 cycle).
Best for: companies with 100 to 1,500 employees doing their first footprint at the request of a customer, a tender, CDP or EcoVadis, who want a coach to scope it, train their team and connect it to their sustainability roadmap.
Avoid if: you have more than a dozen small activities to measure, or an already trained carbon team that only wants a tool: with Ditto, a specialist always supports you.

2. Greenly
Greenly presents itself as SaaS software that replaces the consultancy through automation. The vendor reports more than 3,500 customer companies, more than 350,000 emission factors, automatic matching of accounting data and a supplier collection portal. The same tool covers CSRD, SBTi targets, life cycle assessment and EcoVadis score improvement, with a library of more than 200 quantified actions for the reduction plan. Greenly says it is certified by the Association pour la transition Bas Carbone. Expert support depends on the plan.
Best for: companies that want to automate data collection from their accounting system and cover carbon, CSRD and SBTi targets in a single tool.
Avoid if: you want a complete sustainability management system with a dedicated coach: Greenly is first a carbon calculation tool, CSRD, SBTi and EcoVadis are modules, and the dedicated expert depends on the plan.
3. Sami
Sami has been majority-owned by SGS (inspection and certification) since November 2025. The offer combines a platform, consulting (about 15 carbon consultants in France), training (Sami Academy) and, through SGS, third-party verification, ISO 14001, CBAM and EcoVadis support. Sami also offers a 6 to 12 month internalization program that transfers the method and tools to the client's team. It claims more than 2,000 customers in Europe and applies the Bilan Carbone® and the GHG Protocol.
Best for: companies that want a third-party verified footprint, carbon, ISO and EcoVadis under one group, or training their team to take over the method in-house.
Avoid if: you want a single coach for your entire sustainability program: carbon consulting is Sami's, while EcoVadis support and certifications come from SGS services.
4. Carbo
Carbo is the only one of the five to display public pricing: according to its comparison, subscriptions start at €1,200 per year. Its 2026 barometer puts the average subscription at €3,116 excluding VAT per year for a new company (median €2,640 excluding VAT). Scope 3 is calculated from physical data (kWh, liters, kilometers) using more than 30 environmental databases. A dedicated sector coach is included, except on the self-service Pro plan, with a chat announced to answer in under 5 minutes during business hours. Carbo claims more than 2,000 companies supported, follows the Bilan Carbone® V9 method and says it does not target large international groups: its multi-entity plan goes up to 1,000 employees.
Best for: SMEs and mid-sized companies that want to control their budget, collect data themselves and rely on a sector coach.
Avoid if: you want full human support from the first footprint: the Pro plan is self-service and collection remains your responsibility. The multi-entity scope also stops at 1,000 employees.
5. Sweep
Sweep is a sustainability data platform designed for large groups. It brings together four solutions (carbon accounting, supply chain emissions, ESG reporting, decarbonization strategy) and covers CSRD, CDP, GRI, ISSB, SFDR, the GHG Protocol and the Bilan Carbone®. It maps supply chains with its "Sweep trees," manages financial portfolios for financial institutions and names L'Oréal, Lacoste, EDF, HP and Burberry among its customers. Sweep calls itself a leader in the 2026 IDC MarketScape for carbon platforms. A Starter package exists for growing companies.
Best for: groups and mid-sized multi-entity companies with a complex supply chain and ESG reporting needs across several frameworks.
Avoid if: you are an SME or a mid-sized company looking for structured human support: Sweep is designed first for large accounts and says little about its support on its website.

How to choose
Four questions to ask every provider:
- Who decides the emission factors and the scope 3 exclusions? An exclusion has only three possible justifications: not applicable, double counting, or not significant after estimation. Ask that it be documented.
- What will the figure be used for? A footprint for internal use does not have the same requirements as one presented to a customer, a verifier or under the BEGES obligation, which starts at 500 employees.
- What remains the following year? A footprint is only comparable from one year to the next if the boundary is kept. Check that the data and the method stay available to you, and that the footprint leads to a reduction roadmap your other assessments can reuse.
- What funding is available? The Diag Décarbon'Action supports companies with fewer than 500 employees, with amounts and conditions that change every year: check them with Bpifrance and ADEME.
To compare the forms of support (spreadsheet, training, consultancy, software, coach) before choosing a provider, see our analysis of carbon footprint support. If your need is limited to a data entry tool, the comparison of carbon accounting software is enough. If your footprint also feeds an assessment, the same exercise exists for EcoVadis providers.
