GRI
Global Reporting Initiative
The GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) Standards are the most widely used voluntary framework for sustainability reporting worldwide. They help any organization report its impacts on the economy, the environment and people.
The GRI was founded in Boston in 1997. Its standards come in three series: universal standards that apply to everyone, sector standards, and topic standards (emissions, water, occupational health and safety, anti-corruption and others).
GRI focuses on impact materiality, the outward-facing half of double materiality. GRI and EFRAG have worked to make their standards interoperable, so a company that already reports under GRI does not start from zero with the ESRS.
